Measuring latent anti-Semitism

Against the backdrop of opinion surveys and qualitative interviews on antisemitism conducted in Hungary, the author considers the issue of latent antisemitism. He explores the available data to question whether a significant problem is caused in the interpretation of research findings due to the inclination of research participants to conceal prejudices.

For countries where statistical data is available, it is presented, and where it is not, newspaper reports are used to document key incidents. Some of the possible causes and instigating factors for rises in hate crimes in each country are highlighted, as is the appearance of antisemitism in public discourse.
